Though anything may seem possible with 41 games to play, history tells us otherwise. Of those poised for the playoffs at last year's midpoint, only two from the East (NYR, ATL) and one from the West (CGY) missed at season's end. Put another way, 13 of 16 teams maintained their standing with only 3 of 14 outliers reversing their fortune (MTL, PHI, DET).

The chart below shows the points and pace required for current outliers to qualify based on projected cutoffs (East 92Pts, West 94Pts).

Last year no team with a first half points pace of less than 1.00 made the cut suggesting that several (FLA, CGY, TOR, OTT, NYI, EDM, NJD) have already squandered their second season. But hey, don't write yourself off yet. Just try your best, try everything you can.
Stranger things have happened in the middle of the ride.
